Music blasting while Team's notification sounds are inaudible? Tired of waking up at 3am to random pc noises?
Windows has one master volume slider. That's it. EarTrumpet gives you a slider for every app.
What Is EarTrumpet?
EarTrumpet replaces the Windows volume control with one that shows every app playing audio - each with its own volume slider.
Click the volume icon, see all your apps, adjust them individually.
It's what Windows volume control should have been from the start.
Install
Microsoft Store: https://apps.microsoft.com/store/detail/eartrumpet/9NBLGGH516XP
One click, done. EarTrumpet replaces the default volume icon automatically.
How to Use It
Click the speaker icon in your system tray (where you normally adjust volume):
You'll see:
- Master volume slider at the top
- Individual slider for each app playing audio
Drag any slider to adjust that app's volume independently.

Key Features
Individual App Volume
Spotify at 80%, Discord at 50%, game at 100%. Each app remembers its setting.
Move Apps Between Devices
Have headphones and speakers? Right-click an app and move it to a different output device.
Playing music on speakers but want game audio in headphones? Drag and drop.
Scroll to Adjust
Hover over the EarTrumpet icon and scroll your mouse wheel. Master volume goes up or down without clicking.
See What's Making Noise
Random sound playing? Look at EarTrumpet - it shows which apps are actively playing audio. Find the culprit instantly.
Keyboard Shortcuts
Set up hotkeys for per-app volume control if you want even faster access.
What About Windows Volume Mixer?
Windows has a built-in Volume Mixer (right-click the volume icon → Volume Mixer). Why use EarTrumpet?
| Feature | Windows Mixer | EarTrumpet |
|---|---|---|
| Access | Multiple clicks | One click |
| Interface | Old Control Panel style | Modern, matches Windows 11 |
| Device switching | No | Yes |
| Scroll to adjust | No | Yes |
| Remembers settings | Sometimes | Yes |
EarTrumpet is faster and more reliable.
Use Cases
Gaming + Voice Chat
Game audio at full volume, Discord/TeamSpeak at comfortable level, neither drowns out the other.
Music + Work
Spotify in the background at low volume, Teams/Slack notifications at normal volume.
Presentations
Mute everything except the video you're presenting. No embarrassing notification sounds.
Finding Mystery Sounds
Something making noise? Open EarTrumpet, see which app is active, mute it.
Pairs Well With
Twinkle Tray - Control monitor brightness from system tray (like EarTrumpet but for brightness)
Together they give you quick control over two things Windows makes unnecessarily difficult.

- Windows 10 or 11
- That's it
